Is there a particular reason fireworks are outlawed? It does seem odd that, given the history of the area, that they would ban them. They are such a part of Chinese culture (and by default, the rest of Southeast Asia).

I HATE it when people with a little bit of power or authority (usually with a small brain) start making up rules on a whim. If it's not against the law, you have every right to challenge them.

If it's any consolation, fireworks are totally illegal here in Malaysia. It's a bit odd actually, because fireworks are such a part of the Chinese culture, and we have so many ethnic Chinese people in this country. Still, enforcement is very weak and every Chinese New Year, the Chinese -- and the not-so-Chinese -- people will light their crackers.
