Hey "currently serving". Obviously you didn't notice that I am currently serving in the US Navy. AAMOF, I'm deploying to Iraq in very shortly. So, not only do I have a "lot of time on my hands" but I'm also "joining the fight against terror". I think that qualifies me to voice my opinion in this matter. That good enough for you?

i think its amazing how you people can come up with this topic. if you are so worried that inmigrants are joining the forces because they grew up in this country and they love the way they live here and are willing to fight and die for the country that has given them so much. are we suppose to put them down, are they wrong. i will die for this country next to my brothers in arms, even if they are not citizens . i have a sugestion since it seems you have too much time in your hands. how about you join the fight against terrorist.

you forget one thing: non-citizens enlisting doesn't mean they are out of status. everyone that is allowed to enlist must be AT LEAST permanent resident, the AF doesn't even allow conditional residents in. getting a green card is pretty hard and once you have it, citizenship will come your way after either 3 or 5 years of residence depending on the circumstances. once you are a resident, you don't need the military to become a citizen.

so military citizenship assistance is not sth that will solve the illegal immigration problem because it is not immigration assistance, but merely citizenship.

you need to make a difference between "citizen" and "resident"

That is essentially one of the reasons we allow foreigners to enlist in the first place - allow a method of expedited citizenship. We are not the only country to do this. Not a bad idea to solve the illegal immigrant problem.
