NARMY

While stationed at Camp McCrady (Fort Jackson) in South Carolina, I heard about the term “NARMY”. Obviously it’s a combination of Navy and Army, but it’s kind of cute. It’s the unofficial term for Navy Individual Augmentees, since we are augmenting Army personnel.

In the Army, everyone is first and foremost a soldier. Even if your job is to drive a bulldozer all day, you will still participate in basic rifleman training and other essential skills. Basically, the Navy people are going through an abbreviated version of Advanced Infantry Training. Sailors are then able to take over fundamental jobs that the Army would normally fill; the Army people are then able to go out and bust down doors or whatever their mission requires while the Navy “runs the store”.

Anyways, my brother found a great site: NarmyNow. It provides some additional information to people getting deployed and shows some of the t-shirts coming out for NARMY personnel. Have fun!
