Accepted for Ph.D. program

I was just accepted to a university to start on my Ph.D. School doesn’t start until October but that’s fine. I don’t know how much time the Navy will give me to work on the degree anyways.

One of the reasons I haven’t posted in a long time is because I have been deployed so bloody much. Working on a Ph.D may clash with the schedule, not to mention the spotty Internet connection we have when we are at sea.

My degree will be in Business Management with a concentration in Information Systems. My ultimate goal is to become a college professor but I need teaching experience to land the job. Being in the military pretty much precludes me from doing that. I would substitute at a school but I’m never home.

I’ve thought of a lot of things that my dissertation will be on. I’ve narrowed it down to either piss-poor IT management within the military or the effect role playing games have on job success. Either one is interesting to me and could have fascinating answers develop; I already know how crappy the military/government is when it comes to IT but it would be fun to actually get it documented. And the RPG issue is one that has intrigued me for years since people say games have no social benefits.

That’s the latest for now.
