Police suffer ammunition shortages

I had seen this story last week but the Libertarian Blog article reminded me of it. In short, police departments across the country are running out of ammo for their weapons training because the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (not to mention all the other locations we have troops) are sucking up most of the small arms ammunition being manufactured. > more <

Just plain scary

As found on the Libertarian Party blog, the era of Orwell’s Big Brother is in sight. And the U. S. government isn’t even shy about it.

Under Project Hostile Intent, scientists will aim to build devices that can pick up tell-tale signs of hostile intent or deception from people’s heart rates, perspiration and tiny shifts in facial expressions.

Computer technology papers

In the course of pursuing my Master’s degree, I’ve written many papers (with more yet to come). In the interest of helping out others (and to toot my own horn) I’m going to be adding them to my Google Docs account and “publish” the links here.

The first couple of papers that I’ve uploaded are listed below: > more <

America seems to still think of cell phones as fashion statements rather than useful tools or devices. I don’t have a problem with colorful or cool phones, but the vast majority of Americans I’ve seen tend to treat cell phones the way yuppies treated car phones back in the ’80s: if you have one, then you’re part of the cool crowd. Too bad everyone has one nowadays. Just because you have one doesn’t mean squat anymore. > more <

I’m looking for job prospects

Well, I figure it’s about time to harvest the power of the Internet and see what happens.

I plan on getting out of the Navy next June and so I’m starting to get my resume in order and see where to send it. Naturally I’m looking at Monster, et al. but for many large Internet job sites, it’s like looking for a job in the classified ads: you’re just one of several thousand resumes mass mailed to prospective employers. It’s even worse now in the digital age; it takes nothing to email a resume so a lot of people essentially spam employers in the hopes of “shotgunning a job”. > more <
