Hawaii sucks

I’ve been avoiding this topic since I started this blog but I’m finally breaking down to gripe. And I’m sure I’ll get a lot of flames in the comments about this or any future posts I may have on the subject.

I hate Hawaii. I’ve lived here for over 2 1/2 years and I can’t wait to leave. Sure, the weather is nice but it really does get old after a while; I really miss having all four seasons. But apart from that, I can’t really find a lot of redeeming qualities about Hawaii.

Most of the people I’ve met in the past who enjoy Hawaii only came for a week or two to visit. If you never get out of the tourist areas, I’m sure it’s quite nice. Waikiki is clean (at least where the tourists go) and the beaches are nice over there. But once you leave the tourist areas, Honolulu is more like a ghetto. Many of the buildings are decrepit, there’s trash and graffiti all over, there’s a lot of homeless people, etc. Behind the facade of paradise is the gutter of real Hawaii.

The local government could care less about doing its job and corruption is rampant across the islands. Last year, 48 million gallons of raw sewage were dumped into the Ala Wai Canal (the demarcation between Waikiki and Honolulu proper). This canal goes straight into the beach area of Waikiki. In the 2+ years I’ve been here, there’s probably been more than eight sewage spills around Oahu, most of them into the canal.

The city waited three days or so before they posted signs after one of the spills and only did it after public outcry. The reason is because they didn’t want to scare the tourists. However, after the big Ala Wai spill, one man died from acquiring a flesh-eating bacteria infection after falling into the contaminated water. The city claims there was no connection between the infection and the release of sewage.

The latest problem is between go! airlines and Hawaiian. Hawaiian is trying to sue to have go! shutdown due to predatory pricing. go! currently charges ~$20 for a one-way trip to a neighbor island. Hawaiian feels it has to charge the same but, since Hawaiian has a larger infrastructure due to also supplying intercontinental flights, they simply can’t afford to compete locally. They also claim that go! used Hawaiian’s financial information illegally after gaining access to it during Hawaiian’s bankruptcy filings. So rather than competing on service or other things that may justify a higher price, Hawaiian is following the route of the music companies and trying to use the courts to prop up an outdated business model, or so it appears. Hawaiian has admitted that they will raise prices immediately to “market level” if go! is shut down.

There is a distinct racial bias against white people and, to an similar extent, black people too. But if you look “local”, you’re okay. I have friend who is Hispanic and was treated like a local when he went to a bar, even having people buy him drinks. But his white friends were given the cold shoulder, or at least not treated nearly as well. And Zeus forbid if you’re military.

The term “haolie” is used to distinguish white people from all others here. According to a dictionary I looked at, haolie means “foreigner”. But it’s definitely not used for all non-locals, only the white ones. And I’ve talked to several native Hawaiians who have stated that it actually means “soulless one”, implying that white people have no soul.

Speaking of language, since when is pidgin English considered a bona-fide language? It’s considered an unofficial language of Hawaii; they have dictionaries, books, and even classes on how to speak it. To me, I just think the speaker is a completely illiterate imbecile when I hear it. Seriously, it makes a person sound like a complete moron when he can’t speak in complete sentences. It’s worse than hearing people who have English as a second language; at least you know they’re trying to learn English.

I have a lot more to complain about but I’ll save it for later. But I know that I’m not alone in my distaste for Hawaii. Nearly every single military person I’ve met hates it here and can’t wait for orders out of here. As a matter of fact, there was one guy who cut his shore duty short and went back to sea because he couldn’t stand it.

Update: Since everyone seems to love commenting about this article (probably because of the title), I thought I’d make sure readers realize that there are other, related articles to this. Apparently relying on people to look at the sidebar for similar stories isn’t enough.

    Renee’
I had to laugh when you said no one on the mainland is white anymore… I don’t know anyone that isn’t a blend …. but you know, in hawaii, “locals” have never had to actually think for themselves, they are much like the mynah birds, loud, stupid, and the extent of their education is repeating what they have heard…
After being on the west coast for years, and used to seeing so many people with new ideas starting business, I am constantly amazed how few start up there are in hawaii.
Amazing to me how people in hawaii are content being stupid & lazy.

    • Renee Casillas says:

Yea, I just forwarded igorant comments to my Mexican cousins in Waianae and Maul who are livid and have IP tracing abilities 🙂 They were NOT happy to say the least. Very Very not happy Ill leave it at that.

He is not Hawaiian, you can tell by the hateful way he speaks. Hawaiians are really loving and non defensive. He is Pinoy. (Filipino) you can tell.

      • john says:

I got that from his writing too… thing is the locals here all think they are untouchable… so long as they use their mantra “It’s not my fault, I didn’t know, no one told me” …

      • TtuthisintheEyeofthebeholder says:

I see that Lying is your lifestyle of choice. What state do you live on now? Bet it has just if not more problems than Hawaii. Please be brave and tell so that ours can research and compare figures and facts. Everywhere sucks some places more than others and I bet the state you live in really sucks.

      • Reneeisaliar says:

You can tell your a liar because that is exactly how people in nanakuli and waianae would speak to you if you made them mad. Especially if you if you are acting high and mighty when making fun of the way they speak pigin.

      • youraloser aka Renee fhrowin punches Casillas says:

“you can tell your a liar” LOL get a life…

    • Renee Casillas says:

Hawaii is a VERY small island …Ill leave it at that

      • john says:

Renee, as angry and defensive he got, I think you made that mama’s boy cry.

      • Renee Casillas says:

LOL or hes hiding in his mamas house scared when he step outside he gonna get some lickins bra

      • Renee Casillas says:

I think he just tucked his little peter into his little pants and ran away in his rubba slippas crying LOL

Because Hawaii is small, there’s never anything interesting going on. Saimin is the only thing I really miss. There is no mainland restaurant, even the “Hawaiian” ones, that knows how to do it properly. I have to make it myself, which is very time consuming since I cannot even find the right kind of noodles here. As a kid I read a lot, Mark Twain, Herman Wouk, and I wondered why we didn’t have summer camps or mile long bridges over great rivers that a boy could navigate in a raft of his own construction. Where would you set up a camp? There are no “woods” to speak of so how are you going to build that raft? From papaya tree trunks? For a time I was interested in geology but anyone who has tried this knows that there are no interesting rocks in the islands (just the ones that can give you bad luck if you take them home). Plus the Beatles never played there!

    • john says:

Having grown up in the hills of kentucky & spending many years in washington state, I understand your feelings completely. while living in hawaii I have been invited to go “camping” and to go to a swimming hole in the “mountains “. Turns out “camping meant going to crowded beach park, and going swimming in the mountains/forest was walking through a bamboo forest and the swimming hole in the mountains was fifty feet from someone’s fenced back yard. When people ask me what I miss most about the mainland,I say; people actually smiling back at you on the streets, the smell and feel of the forest/mountains, and being able to swim & fish in clean river/lakes … in wasjington, oregon, california, you have lush forest on one side of the state and miles of desert on the other side…

Surprisingly, IP address hacking does not generally lead to access to your personal information, but it can be used for other nefarious purposes. Hackers have been known to use stolen IP addresses to download illegal content like pirated material, child pornography, or content that threatens national security.Sep 2, 2018

Hatardi is a shithole. People deserve to suffer living with poverty there. A bunch of leftists looking for a broke government to take care of them. How is the rail? Focused towards the poor vice the other wealthy areas. Fucking shithole. Why defend it? The beaches are jacked anyway.

  5. Shitshow@gmail.com says:

Ask an mutts run this shitshow.

  6. Obsidian Sky says:

You ALL sound like angry, racist people on here. So, no one is any better than the other. You’re all riding the merry-go-round of hate. Yeah, I’ve lived in Hawaii all of my life, but I have traveled extensively to Europe, the Mainland, and Asia. It’s important to get off the rock, which most locals don’t do, except to go to Vegas. lol I never felt like I fit in here, or belong here, but I stayed because my daughter wants to finish school here with her friends. After that, we plan to move to either Europe or the mainland.

I understand everything that people are saying about the ghetto culture here that is fed by the lack of motivation, and poverty mentality, most locals have. I hate the lack of PRINCIPLES and STANDARDS here, but I don’t hate “Asians”, or other ethnicities because of it. I realize you can find ghetto mentality ANYWHERE, and you can’t label a few ethnicities as ‘good or bad’ because of one place you’ve been to. I’ve met jerks from all ethnicities, and I’ve met great people from all ethnicities too. Not all local people are racist, un-educated, narrow-minded, and rude…the lower class, old-school ones are I guess, but you can find that anywhere you go in this wide world. I’ve been slipped a few ‘racist’ comments before, but I don’t blame the entire place for one person’s actions. Anyway, if you look for the bad, you will find it. I try not to dwell on that. We are leaving because we want a higher standard of living for less, and more opportunities that Hawaii just cannot provide.

Oh, and btw, the term “haole” actually means “no breath”, ha (breath), ole (no). Captain Cook shook hands with the Hawaiian chief because that is the European custom of greeting. The Hawaiian greeting is to press foreheads together and breathe in each others’ breath (much more intimate and spiritual). So, the cultural difference is what coined the term ha’ole, or “one with no breath”. It was not intended to be offensive, but rather it was used descriptively. Some use it offensively, others just descriptively, depending on HOW it’s said. Yeah, there’s a lot of resentment toward white people here because of the history of Hawaii’s take-over, but I am smart enough to appreciate that you cannot blame an entire ethnic group for what a few of them did. People are people….they prove what they are by their own choices and actions. Period.

    • Renee Casillas says:

Hey Chika, I am Mexican, not sure how racist you think I can be ! Hawaii sucks. Period. People included. If you want to make it about race, thats on you.

      • TruthisintheEyeofthebeholder says:

You don’t live here anymore, and you are a Mexican and a racists. Move on with your life.

      • john says:

looks like even long distance , you still yknow how to piss eye-bugger off

      • Renee Casillas says:

” You are Mexican and you are racists” lol! Kind of an oxymoron….idiot I’m not calling you a Moron but I bet you have to look up the word 😉.

      • truthisintheeyeofthebeholder says:

        You are delusional racist Mexican!
        Move on with your life.

      • john says:

and you are just another self important local no body piece of shit… why not find a blog where your opinions and attitude are appreciated, because you/they certainly are not holding any value here eye bugger

      • Truthisintheyesofthebeholder says:

You’re using the word oxymoron wrong!
Because you can be both a racist and a Mexican at the same time.

You are a myopic delusional racist Mexican! Move on with your life!

  7. john says:

    ***** New Fun Fact !!!!
while looking at TV vs Monitor to use with my computer, the energy guide says estimated yearly cost, “calculated at .12 cents per kwh based on five hours of use per day……not bad right?
EXCEPT FOR THE FACT, ONE KWH FROM HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COST $31.00+ per KWH?
Hawaiian Electric went from an 18% increase from 2017-2018 to a 45 % increase in 2018!!!!!!!!
lets all hope when we finally go to war with an asian country, our military takes full control of hawaii’s monopolies, and
install solar for residents at a cost effective price!

    • Truthisintheeyeofthebeholder says:

“It”( I don’t want to assume it’s gender) doesn’t piss me off, I just enjoy how easy it is to get a reaction out of “it”.

      • Eyelicker says:

And yet, John you give me value by taking the time and replying to my post.
So obviously my opinions must mean something to you.

      • john says:

what a truly sad and pathetic life you have.

      • Renee Casillas says:

Its fun to sit here and watch all these “Hawaii Lovers” who google “Hawaii Sucks” and find them here, only to have thier asses handed to them.

      • john says:

good thing we are here to hand em to them, most aren’t smart enough to find their fat lazy asses on their own….🥴

  8. Eyelicker says:

What is sad and pathetic John, is the fact that you constantly complain instead of finding a solution to your problems. Whether it’s moving to “your” idyllic version of paradise or accepting the fact that Hawaii isn’t perfect. But no, year after year you complain on a blog to other negative people about how much Hawaii sucks…..how does that ever improve your situation? You are trapped in an insane hamster wheel of negativity and it is nobody’s fault but your own. Corruptions everywhere, no place is perfect.

The mainland, in every state has an opioid epidemic, crime, and a misused of funds by the government causing wide spread corruption.
North Korea so corrupt that they have a fertilizer crisis and they’re making their citizens to save their own poop. They have to save 25 pounds per person in each household or they are fined or go to labor camps. This crisis is causing citizens to steal their neighbors poop or buy poop on the black market.

So yeah Hawaii has its problems but so does wherever else. So if you hate it so much in Hawaii leave or do something now to make living here more tolerable. Man up! You sound like a whiny brat that no kid wants to play with.

    • Renee Casillas says:

Awww Hell NO “Eyelicker” knows a BIG word ! “Idyllic” lol…John I am over here dying haha…My complexion is great, honey colored if you must know…and dude, we come here to vent about what asswipes lots of locals are, which is why we googled “Hawaii sucks”. It helps us blow off some steam of what we experienced there and our friends, etc. Regardless of race. NOW the question YOU have not answered: If you LOVE Hawaii so much, why the fk did you google “Hawaii sucks”???

      • Eyelicker says:

Sorry Renee, no one as hateful as you could possibly have a good complexion.
You must be looking at yourself though a filter on your phone.

      • Eyelicker says:

Friends, strangers you type to on a blog are considered your friends? Boy, chika you need to get out of the house more.

As far as locals being no good in your eyes….if one or two people dislike you, maybe the problem is them. If a whole bunch of people dislike you, the problem is definitely you.
In your case the latter explanation is definitely the logical reason.

      • Renee Casillas says:

Dude , it is 5:37pm Saturday where I live and I come home with all these messages from you that I need to get a life while I have been out all day and you have been home on your computer banging away I cant even catch up with all your rambling…probly in your mothers basement finger typing LMBO …get a life ! If you like HI so much why are you home all day yapping at this computer?

  9. Eyelicker says:

“Its fun to sit here and watch all these “Hawaii Lovers” who google “Hawaii Sucks” and find them here, only to have thier asses handed to them.”
Renee come up with something new instead of the same tired hashtag….you don’t live here anymore so why are you still complaining. You are a broken record!

Now for an explanation for why some of us googled Hawaii sucks.
That’s because some of us used to think Hawaii suck but but realized it was our attitude we had to change our perception and thinking.
We let the negativity get the best of us so then, we took accountability and start working on being more positive.
We made roots, meet awesome people, stop being so judgemental and we stopped pigeonholing a whole class of people just because a few people gave us a negative experience.
Obviously Renee wherever you are you’re not happy that’s why you have to come and complain here. Move on with your life , all this negativity is in good for your complexion or your health.

    • Eyelicker says:

Renee, what a lame come back! So you go out leave your house in the the current state you are living . Only to come back at 5:45pm to read my response to defend yourself on why you are still complaining about Hawaii and state you have longed moved out of years ago.

And your asking me about my life?

  10. Renee Casillas says:

Dude, you explained why you googled “Hawaii sucks” in the past, but you can’t explain why you continue to come here?

    • Eyelicker says:

Why do you come here Renee? This blog was made for those to vent and find comfort while they were living on the island. You don’t even live in Hawaii anymore. How many years has It been since you left the island? If your past experiences of Hawaii was so traumatic why relive it year after year by whining and complaining? Move on get some help, your hatred has made you a bitter intolerant unhappy person.

Oh , and why do I come here now? One, because I live here. Two, offer a different opinion since it is a public blog. You are not the creator of the blog, she (unlike you) has moved on with here life.

    • Eyelicker says:

Renee, I am sorry for attacking you, it was unloving and undignified of me.
I understand how hard it is to live in Hawaii , but I isn’t good to harbor so much hate. Hate takes away our humanity and dehumanizes us.
Anywho hope you can heal from your past experiences and let go of the negative you have for Hawaii.

      • Renee Casillas says:

That was nice of you . Life is short, life is stressful, no matter where we live we should try to understand each other :…Thanks

  11. Eyelicker says:

How many years has it been since you left Hawaii? I don’t think it’s Hawaii you have to let off steam; I think it is your whole life in General.
I mean it wholeheartedly you should think about getting some kind of therapy.

    • Eyelicker says:

Renee, what a lame come back! So you go out leave your house in the the current state you are living . Only to come back at 5:45pm to read my response to defend yourself on why you are still complaining about Hawaii and state you have longed moved out of years ago.

And your asking me about my life?

      • Eyelicker says:

And I never said get a life I said move on with your current stat of living. Enjoy your life, why come here to complain and whine.
Today is my relax and hand it to delusional myopic Mexican racist day.
Thank you for being part of my day.

  12. Ann says:

I do find it amazing that the “indigenous people” have a very strong animus against “haoles”, Japanese have taken over this state for decades, not the nasty whitey! How this fact is not noticed on these people screaming HAOLE is not a surprise? Dumber than a box of rocks. This “machine” has gone unchecked for decades! Stevie Wonder could figure this gig out! Why can’t anybody else?

The whole political machine from dog catcher on up, is controlled by this group. This unbending, my way or the high way, nasty, totalitarian, condensing, dumb, narrow minded, smug superior thinking, bureaucratic loving, nepotism based system of control is for starters a huge problem what is going on with this state.

    My Two Cents.

The Elephant in the Room that is not to be discussed. SSSSHHHHH. MO

  13. Retard says:
